Following a limited tender from the Portuguese Ministry of Defence, Navigomes was awarded the transport of 143 military vehicles (trucks, trailers, jeeps) plus 32 shipper-owned containers and ammunition from Portugal to NATO headquarters in Pristina, Kosovo.
Transport was contracted on a door-to-door basis and involved hiring of trucks and stevedoring services in Portugal, chartering of a roro vessel from Setúbal to Thessaloniki, Greece, contracting stevedoring services in Greece and, finally, trucking with Greek and Macedonian vehicles to final destination.
Despite the heavy snow in northern Greece, Macedonia and Kosovo, all cargo was delivered in NATO headquarters ahead of schedule, at client’s full satisfaction, Luís Branco, managing-director and shareholder of Navigomes, proudly stated.
Navigomes regularly perform difficult transport tasks for the Portuguese M.O.D., which include destinations such as Angola, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, etc. Almost all different means of transportation – road, rail, ocean and air (the latter including chartering of Antonov and Airbus aircrafts) have been used on these transports in the past years.
