On May 21, 2004, COSCO Logistics successfully unloaded and transported the heaviest piece - RECTIFIER REBOILER COMPLETE AND STANDARD ACCESSORIES for CNOOC-Shell Petrochemical Project, which marked the establishment of the new national record for heavy lifts handling in China. The weight of the reactor reaches 1284 tons. It is the heaviest cargo that a Chinese logistics provider has ever handled to date.
The CNOOC-Shell Project is currently the largest Sino-foreign joint venture in China. The production scale of the facility also ranks one of the biggest petrochemical projects worldwide. The total investment amounts to 4.35 billion US dollars.
COSCO Logistics was awarded the bids of providing logistics services for the project at Japan and Malaysia at 2003, which includes customs clearance, barging, inland haulage of containers and heavy lifts, lifting operation at ports and temporary storage, etc.
The 1284t reactor was made in Japan and carried by a barge with deadweight of 8000t. After arriving at the MOF, the reactor was unloaded by the roll-off operation. COSCO Logistics used its advanced offloading technique and 2200t self-propelled trailer to offload the item and transport it to the jobsite successfully.
COSCO Logistics has sophisticated roll-on & roll-off operation techniques and has developed relevant mathematic model and computer software for calculation. Based on cargo weight, wharf conditions and hydrographic conditions, the company can select the proper vessel, vehicle and operation time so that a reliable operation plan can be worked out.
